What is the purpose of the policy DLLs?

Can someone explain to me the purpose and usage of these file:

         policy.4.0.Farpoint.win.dll

         policy.4.0.Farpoint.win.spread.dll

Am I supposed to deploy them with my application, or what?

    Thanks,

Re: What is the purpose of the policy DLLs?

    Hello,

These files get installed on the system where you install FarPoint Spread for Windows Forms, these are like any other policy files describing the permissions and other information that apply to code with a particular set of evidence for  FarPoint Windows and for FarPoint Spread.

You don't need to deploy these files with your application, the files you need to deploy with your application that you have developed using FarPoint Spread for Windows Forms are as follows:

    • FarPoint.CalcEngine.dll
    • FarPoint.Excel.dll
    • FarPoint.PluginCalendar.WinForms.dll
    • FarPoint.Win.dll
    • FarPoint.Win.Spread.dll

Please go through the Read Me helpbook that you got along with the Spread for information on it.

    Thanks,

Re: What is the purpose of the policy DLLs?

Thank you Deepak -- I didn't know about policy DLL's before this.   I was able to track down the problem I was having -- somehow a DLL in the general assembly cache on my development machine was redirecting all references to a later version, so I couldn't run side-by-side instances of different Farpoint versions.  I deleted the policy DLL and all is now fine.
