The SQL Saturday #77 held this past weekend in Pensacola Florida was a huge success with a few hundred in attendance. GrapeCity sponsored the event along with Platinum sponsor Bit-Wizards, a great partner of GrapeCity. They have recommended and built several customer solutions using award winning ActiveReports. It was great catching up with the CEO Vincent Mayfield ,who contributed a session on Windows Azure, and COO Louis Erickson. Vincent said “GrapeCity ActiveReports is our component of choice for reporting needs. It is much easier to use than Crystal Reports”. Director of Engineering Kevin Grohoske shared a customer implementation experience using a creative mutli-threaded ActiveReports solution which screams in performance for heavy reporting usage. He also did a session on ‘Building Occasionally Connected Apps using SQL Azure’. Stay tuned for some Russ Cam videos and a case study with this group.
Karla Landrum did her usual amazing job organizing the event. Also, congrats to her on her new position with PASS. They will benefit greatly with her experience, setting up several SQL Saturdays across the country. It was flawless in execution, from the speaker dinner Friday night at Hemingway's on the Beach, the event itself, the after party at Rosie O’Grady’s at Seville Quarter and the Deep Sea Fishing Trip for attendees, influentials and guests. She deserves a big round of applause!!! Her husband, SQL MVP Rodney Landrum, provided non stop assistance and a session on T-SQL Alphabet Soup. Rodney is evaluating the ActiveAnalysis component as a cost effective alternative in a BI Solution that he is about to work on. Shawn MeGahee, former Speaker Idol from the Florida pan handle, and now Orlando, did a session on ‘Building SMO Apps for the non-Programmer DBA’. Ryan Duclos, Lower Alabama .NET UG leader did a session in ‘Intro to SQL Azure’. We all caught a lot of fish on Sunday!!! All in all, it was one of the best weekends I have every had! I love Pensacola.

THE DEEP SEA FISHING TRIP WAS AWESOME!!!!!!! PASS SQL Saturday organizer Karla Landrum is seen here with a great day’s catch and the largest Red Snapper catch of the day! We caught the boat limit, with buckets full of Red Snapper and Mangrove “Mango’s” Snapper. Delicious!!!!!!
